The India-UK Collaborative R&D for Industrial Sustainability competition is designed by Innovate UK and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), in collaboration with the Technology Development Board (TDB), the delivery partner for DST. The aim of this competition is to fund collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects between the UK and India with a focus on industrial sustainability.
Innovate UK EDGE in conjunction with the Department for Science and Technology (DST) will manage the one-to-one meetings via the b2match platform that will support you in finding a partner in the UK or India.
The grant funding competition opens on Wednesday 31 May 2023 and proposals must include at least one business partner from the UK and one from India. UK applicants can apply for between £100K - £300K per project from Innovate UK and Indian applicants can apply from Technology Development Board (TDB). Projects can last between 6 and 18 months. The competition will close on 6th September 11:00am.

One-to-One Meetings
The one-to-one meetings will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in innovative developments and build partnerships with UK and Indian businesses that are required to bid for grant funding.
Register and use this b2match tool to schedule 30-minute meeting appointments with one or more of the businesses on this platform, so you have the opportunity to bid for grant funding together. Once you've registered, you will see the timeslots available for each business. Once your meeting has been confirmed, you will receive an email with your virtual meeting login information.
Detailed descriptions of all businesses, including funding stage and partnership goals are available to all registered participants.
The Competition Themes
This is an opportunity for UK and Indian businesses that have innovations that can improve resource and energy efficiency and increase industrial sustainability. Projects must focus on one or both of the following themes:
Theme One
Sustainability Advances for the Materials, Manufacturing, and Foundation Industries (Glass, Paper, Cements, Ceramics, Chemicals, and Metals)
Your project must focus on at least one of these areas:
- Enabling technologies for sustainability, including digital solutions, sensors and controls, bio-based feedstocks, waste recycling and value-added processes for waste streams
- New supply chain and business models for the manufacturing, materials, or foundation industries (glass, paper, cements, ceramics, chemicals and metals), including, but not limited to, the move to a circular economy, industrial symbiosis, co-location and servitisation
- New and efficient production processes for the manufacturing, materials or foundation industries, including, but not limited to, transformative low-temperature processes, waste heat capture, recovery systems and planning optimisation
- Smart design for resource efficiency and through-life value using effective design methods
- Next-generation materials involving the discovery, scaling, processing, and adoption of advanced and sustainable materials
- Other sustainability improvements for the manufacturing, materials, or foundation industries
Theme Two
Power Electronics, Machines, and Drives (PEMD)
Your project must focus on one or more of these areas:
- Power electronic semiconductor fabrication or device packaging, including innovations in Gallium Nitride and Silicon Carbide
- Power conversion innovations including invertors and convertors for any application, such as electric vehicles or energy systems
- Electric machine design innovations, including design for manufacture for any application
- Electric machine control innovations, including design and manufacture
- Magnet manufacturing and end-of-life recycling solutions
- Electric vehicle (EV) chargers
- Two and three-wheeler electric vehicle powertrains

The delivery of the promotion and matchmaking events for the India-UK Collaborative R&D for Industrial Sustainability Grant Funding Competition is managed by Newable on behalf of Innovate UK.
